A study conducted by Namdeb found that operations had trouble in rapidly dewatering flooded mining blocks inside Southern Coastal Mines. It was therefore recommended to consider dedicated rapid dewatering units for this application.
Several options and configurations were tabled during a trade-off study conducted by ADP Namibia, and it was decided to proceed with the implementation of pontoon-based pump solutions in the G90 and G100 areas.
The Redi-Prime pumps installed were fully automatic priming and re-priming pumps, with a suction lift capability of up to 9 metres.
The project consisted of procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of these pumps including pontoons, piping, electrical and instrumentation infrastructure.
